CFD Tokyo is a group of top-class fashion designers in Japan. The group was founded in July, 1985, by six fashion designers: Issei Miyake, the chairman; Rei Kawakubo; Mitsuhiro Matsuda; Hanae Mori; Kansai Yamamoto; and Yoji Yamamoto. The group now consists of many other fashion designers. Since its founding, the group has hosted fashion shows on a half-yearly basis for twenty years: the group regularly hosts spring/summer and autumn/winter shows. The group has played an important role in transforming Tokyo into a major fashion center, much like New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
We have collaborated with companies, the national government, local governments, other organizations, and specialists in the field of fashion. It continues to promote fashion design and business in Japan, train newcomers, and contribute to society.
In recent years, with the evolution of digital technology and AI (artificial intelligence), some people argue that designers are unnecessary. Rather, it can be said that we have entered an era in which high-level creativity is required. In addition, sustainability and SDGs such as climate change and environmental issues on a global scale, widening disparities and ethical issues are also urgent themes. In this era of great changes, by gathering the power of creation and digital technology, we would like to make efforts little by little along with people who share the same aspirations in order to improve the lives and cultures around the world and realize a peaceful and rich society. We will start possible effective activities first of all.
