デザイナーである菊田は2002年、新宿区生まれ。2020年に制作活動を開始。2021年頃より家庭用編み機による服作りを始める。その後、ニットデザイナー丹治基浩のもとでテキスタイルを学び、2022年に発表したコレクションを皮切りに、ファッションブランド YUSUKE KIKUTA を立ち上げる。

東京／新宿を舞台とした「ドキュメントなきドキュメンタリー」を出発点に、都市に眠る相対性をテクノロジーによって編み直す。この相対性は人類の営みに限定されるものではなく、編み直す行為によって立ち上がるのは、現実そのものではなく、現実を見つめるための新たな視座である。

Yusuke Kikuta, the designer, was born in 2002 in Shinjuku, Tokyo. He began his creative practice in 2020. Around 2021, he started producing garments using a domestic knitting machine. He later studied textiles under knit designer Motohiro Tanji, and in 2022 launched the fashion brand YUSUKE KIKUTA, beginning with the release of his first collection.
Taking a "documentary without documents" situated in Tokyo/Shinjuku as its starting point, the brand reknits the latent relativities embedded in the city through reknitting through technology. These relativities are not limited to human activity, and what emerges through reknitting is not reality itself but a new vantage point for observing it.
